Asha Eleven’s Fall/Winter 2023 Collection “Surface” Explores Textures, Layers and Patterns

Womenswear brand Asha Eleven has recently revealed its new collection for the fall/winter 2023 season. Entitled “Surface”, it’s inspired by a magnetism towards texture, pattern and the layering of color.

According to the South Africa-based brand, the collection draws its references from intricate surface design common to India, Morocco, East Africa and nature. “Surface” explores the notion of outward facades and examining what lies beneath, whether a kaleidoscope of color, mirrored shapes and a collage of patterns.

This is expressed in the colorful print design that permeates the collection. A patchwork that combines monochrome stripes, dots and stars in shades of yellow, pink and blue, the seasonal print is used on wide-leg pants, mid-length dresses and blouses. Juxtaposed with the patterned designs are simple basics in solid colors, mostly black and pink, which both complement the print as well as provide a point of contrast.

Designed and made in Cape Town, the brand’s pieces are made from uses natural, biodegradable textiles and upcycled fabrics made using would-be-waste.

Taking inspiration from formidable women around the world, each piece in the collection is named after women such as former US first lady Michelle Obama, and Wangari Mathai, the first African woman to win a Nobel Peace Prize.
